Team Policies

Tsunami Team Membership:

Membership on the Tsunamis team is first open to Tavistock residents, ages 4-18, as of June 15th, 2026. Our team is capped at 110 swimmers. We are still accepting a limited number of non-Tavistock residents, and we are excited to welcome them to our team!

Non-resident swimmers: If we have not reached our swimmer cap of 110 swimmers by May 1st, the team may be open to non-residents with the following rules:

  • Swimmers must not have their own swim team available within their residing neighborhood.
  • Non-residents will be put on a waiting list until all Tavistock resident applications have been processed, and will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
  • The number of non-residents cannot exceed 20% of the swim team.
  • Family members are welcome to attend all swim team events, but due to insurance liability reasons, only swimmers accepted on the Tsunamis are permitted to use the Tavistock pool, during practice and meet times.
  • Acceptance to the Tsunami team is not a Tavistock pool membership and will end once the swim team season completes.

Volunteering:

Please see the "Parent Volunteer Obligation" tab for more information. The policy regarding volunteering has been updated this year and families are REQUIRED to volunteer, or their swimmer cannot participate in meets.

Swim Team Cost/Fees:

The Tsunamis fee to participate on the swim team for the 2026 swim season is $140 per swimmer, signed up by May 31st, 2026. Non-resident swimmers are $155/swimmer.

We offer a sibling discount for families that sign up more than one child. Families with multiple children will receive a $15 discount for additional siblings (i.e., 1st child = $140, 2nd child = $155, 3rd child = $155, etc.). This is applicable to non-residents as well (1st = $190, 2nd = $175, etc.).

Expectations:

Although swimming is considered an individual sport, our summer league is structured with an emphasis on the team. Any team is only as good as the people on it. We expect the following from swimmers:

  • Be able to swim and tread water. Swim team should not be substituted for swim lessons for beginner swimmers.
  • Be on time to practices and meets and come prepared to swim and have fun.
  • Pay attention and be respectful to the coaches. Everyone will learn more from the coaches when swimmers pay attention. Disruptions are not fair to the other swimmers.
  • Be respectful to the lifeguards, parent volunteers and visiting guests.
  • Do your best. Doing your best is a lot more important than being the best.

Team Website:

The Tsunami swim program cannot be run successfully without effective communication among all the participants. All information is posted on this website regarding meets, practice times, social events, etc. Please make sure that the information for your online account is accurate when you register and update your information with the team manager if it should change during the season. This is our best way of communicating with our 100+ swimmers and, if an emergency arises, that information is used to help your child. Check the website daily for the latest changes and information and be sure to open emails sent from the Tsunami coaches, reps or the board. It is your responsibility to stay informed during the Tsunami season.

Parent Meeting:

The 2026 Parent meeting will take place behind the Tavistock Farmhouse on Sunday, May 10th, 2025 at 4:40pm. All new and returning team members are required to attend the Parent Meeting at the beginning of the season.

The purpose of this meeting is to review any changes that have come up over the winter, meet the coaches, meet the committee, hear what is planned for the season and answer questions that you may have.

Equipment:

The 2026 swimsuit is the same suit as last season. Check on Speedo, Amazon or Swim Outlet for the best prices/availability. Brand: Speedo, Style: Disco Boom, Color: Team Royal/Bright Green. Every swimmer is required to have a team suit. Older team suits can be used for practices.

A latex team cap and one team t-shirt will be given to each swimmer at the beginning of the season. If you have a latex allergy, please let us know as we have a limited number of silicone caps available.

Items Needed for Practice:

  • Any swimsuit (Team swimsuits can be worn, but may want to be saved for swim meets as chlorine can fade the colors)
  • Swim cap, if desired
  • 2 pairs of Goggles (in case one breaks)
  • Towel(s)
  • Possibly a sweatshirt/jacket especially for the first several practices where the water and air is still cool

Items Needed for Meets:

  • Team Suit
  • Team Swim cap, if desired
  • 2 pairs of Goggles (in case one breaks)
  • 2 towels - 1 to sit on in your age group section on the deck and 1 to dry off with
  • A sweatshirt/jacket for early morning meets
  • Sunscreen, bug spray and water bottle
  • Visor, hat, sunglasses
  • Folding chair (for parents) may be needed at away meets (no need to bring one to our pool)

Safety:

Safety is of paramount importance. Observe all pool safety rules at both our pool and every other pool we visit. Respect the lifeguard’s authority. They are there for everyone’s safety.

Non-Swimmer Supervision:

The Tsunamis require that all children be supervised by a parent or other designated adult. The coaching staff is not responsible for non-swimmers. Non-swimmers will not be allowed into the pool during swim meets.

Meets are very busy times. It is for the safety of your younger children that we ask you to arrange for their supervision while you are working at the meets. Younger children cannot accompany parents while they are working at a meet. Exchanging childcare with another parent works well.
